ASSESSING STUDENT UNDERSTANDING DURING INQUIRY
COURSE DESCRIPTION |
PHYSICS CONTENT |
We will revisit inquiry-based learning through a new lens: Assessment. In addition to exploring how to structure inquiry-based lessons on circular motion and gravitation, we will design ways to assess students beyond the traditional end-of-chapter test.

KNOWLEDGE-SKILLS-MINDSET to be gained by participating:
Knowledge: Teachers understand that assessment can take many forms and that non-traditional assessment has a place during inquiry-based learning.
Skills: Teachers encourage students to develop ideas and models in physics through inquiry-based learning. Teachers effectively implement assessment strategies that measure student understanding and mastery of key conceptions.
Mindset: Teachers believe that students achieve knowledge and critical thinking skills through inquiry-based learning and that effective student assessment during this type of learning may take forms beyond a pencil-and-paper test.
