Course: Designing Physics Lessons with MATH in Mind
Students come to our physics classrooms with a wide range of math abilities and this inevitably influences the way in which we teach them physics. With this in mind, you may find yourself teaching a wide range of courses, from Conceptual to AP Physics, and the varying math requirements associated with each of those courses. Even if you teach one course, such as On-Level Physics, you are likely faced with preparing lessons for an audience of mixed-math ability. How can we effectively encourage and engage our students to excel in problem-solving in physics? In this module the teacher will:
Identify the level at which students are performing in math.
Learn and apply teaching methods that allow students to visualize the math behind the physics.
Learn and apply strategies to help students improve their math skills.
Create a math-based physics lesson that can be easily modified for a variety of course levels.
Learn and apply strategies on how to successfully teach a physics lesson to a classroom of students with mixed-math abilities.
