Meeting the NGSS: Net Force
COURSE DESCRIPTIONNewton’s 2nd Law of motion describes the mathematical relationship among the net force on a macroscopic object, its mass and its acceleration. In this module will explore how data analysis and mathematical modeling promote a deep understanding of Newton’s 2nd Law.

Mindset: Teachers believe that students develop a deep understanding of physics and its laws through data collection and analysis, including the creation of studentdeveloped models which can be tested and confirmed in the classroom/lab.
Knowledge:
 Newton’s 2nd Law accurately predicts changes in the motion of macroscopic objects (DCI PS2.A).
 Strategies for data analysis including use of tools, technologies, and mathematical/computational modeling of Newton’s 2nd Law.
Skills:
 Teachers will be able to identify the disciplinary core ideas (DCI), crosscutting concepts, and engineering practices that make up NGSS performance standard HSPS21.
 Teachers will be able to select effective strategies which develop the following NGSS Science and Engineering Practice: Analyze data using tools, technologies, and/or models (e.g. computational, mathematical) in order to make valid and reliable scientific claims or determine an optimal design solution.
