TEACHING WITH OPEN INQUIRY AND PROJECT-BASED LEARNING
COURSE DESCRIPTIONOne traditional teaching model is of a teacher standing at the front of the room talking while students play the role of a sponge, soaking up knowledge. This model is not effective for preparing most students for the real world. How can we empower students to expand their knowledge and skills through project-based learning as the focus of our unit, rather than as the final project which summarizes what they have already learned?

KNOWLEDGE-SKILLS-MINDSET to be gained by participating:
Knowledge: Teachers know the keys to rigorous project-based learning (PBL). Also, teachers understand effective open inquiry strategies during PBL which guide students (rather than telling them how) to arrive at correct ideas in physics.
Skills: Teachers encourage students to develop ideas and models in physics through open-inquiry and project-based learning, instead of through traditional lecture. Additionally, teachers effectively implement open inquiry strategies.
Mindset: Teachers believe that students achieve knowledge and critical thinking skills through active involvement in their learning, such as in project-based learning, that they will carry with them into their future lives and careers.
