CHALLENGING BELIEFS AND REVERSING MISCONCEPTIONS
Students arrive at our doors with their own ideas about force and Newton’s Laws. What are some common misconceptions about Newton’s Laws? How can physics teachers identify students’ existing beliefs and subsequently reverse misconceptions?
KNOWLEDGE-SKILLS-MINDSET to be gained by participating:
Knowledge: Teachers know and understand common student misconceptions related to force and Newton’s Laws.
Skills: Teachers develop lessons plans that include strategies and experiences for students which challenge these beliefs in a way that will solidify correct conceptions.
Mindset: Teachers believe that bringing student misconceptions to the surface is necessary to correct student ideas and replace misconceptions with correct ideas.
